Memorials & Tributes Policy

Temporary Memorials

At Framingham State University, Memorial Grove near Larned Beach has been designated as the location for temporary memorials. Temporary Memorials are limited to that location on campus.

  • To place a temporary memorial, please contact the Dean of Students Office (deanofstudents@framingham.edu).
  • Please refrain from placing candles with flames or glass in the area.
  • Flowers, wreaths, ribbons and other decorations may be removed during regular maintenance of the Grove.
  • Items placed in the Grove may be relocated or removed for safety reasons or if the installation is in poor condition.
  • The University is not responsible for items placed in the Grove.

Requests for Permanent Memorials

There are many memorial plaques, benches and sculptures on campus that have been installed in tribute to gifts from alumni, in honor of deceased members of the community, and in support of special events (such as trees in support of sustainable efforts). These memorial tributes are “permanent”; meaning they were crafted and installed to remain in place for the foreseeable future. If any individual, club, or department would like to install such a tribute, contact should be made with the Development Office (development@framingham.edu) to investigate purchase of the permanent tribute. The Development Office will consult with the Facilities Department on this request for a coordinated effort.

Temporary Historical Tributes

Clubs and groups may request a temporary installation of special flags or signs in recognition or tribute to historical events (such as Holocaust remembrance). Requests for permission to install such tributes should be made to the Facilities Department (facilities@framingham.edu) no later than three days prior to the planned installation. These tributes are installed and then removed (no later than two weeks) by the sponsoring club or group.
