Leave of Absence – Undergraduate

A Leave of Absence (LOA) is a temporary interruption of  one’s studies at FSU for either the fall or spring semester of the academic year (intersession and summer terms are excluded) for which the matriculated undergraduate student does not choose to enroll in classes. An LOA is related only to the student’s continued enrollment at the University and is not recognized by federal regulations.

Students may choose to request a LOA from the University for a period of time not to exceed two consecutive major semesters (Fall and Spring) at a time.  A student may request up to four (4) LOAs during their enrollment at the University.  Depending on the time of the LOA there may be financial implications, like prorated fees for the semester, including housing.

The Leave of Absence form is now a an electronic fillable form found in the third section from the bottom of the Various Forms section of the Registrar’s Office Landing page.  Once submitted, this from will be forwarded to Dean of Students, Financial Aid, Registrar’s Office and Student Accounts.  Students completing a Leave of Absence for the fall or spring semester should continue to monitor their FSU student email for correspondence from these offices, FSU Alerts and from their academic advisor.
